Terms of Service

Romaji.live — online Japanese practice platform

Welcome to Romaji.live (“the Service”, “we”, “us”). The Service provides online Japanese courses, typing practice, and learning records. Please read these Terms of Service (“these Terms”) carefully before registering or using the Service. By registering for, signing in to, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read and agree to be bound by these Terms.

1Acceptance and changes

By accessing or using the Service in any way, you confirm that you understand and accept these Terms in full. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.

We may revise these Terms from time to time as the Service develops. The revised version will be published on this page with its effective date. For material changes we will give reasonable notice. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms; if you do not agree with the changes, you may stop using the Service.

2The service

The Service offers Japanese learning content, immersive typing practice, and progress tracking. The features actually available to you are those the Service provides at the time you use it.

We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service, courses, or features, and may make some content subject to conditions or payment. Such changes do not affect rights you have already acquired.

3Accounts and sign-in

You can sign in with a Google account or with an email one-time code. You must ensure that the email address you use is real, accurate, able to receive mail, and either yours or used with lawful authorization.

Your account is for your own use only. You may not transfer, lend, sell, or let anyone else use it. You are responsible for everything done under your account, and you must keep your account and sign-in credentials secure.

If you breach these Terms or applicable law, or if we see abusive registration or abnormal use, we may restrict, suspend, or terminate your account and access to the Service, depending on how serious the breach is.

4Subscriptions and payment

Paid access is a subscription sold under the name Romaji Pro. We offer monthly, quarterly, and annual plans, corresponding to membership periods of 1, 3, and 12 months. The current prices and what each plan includes are those shown on the purchase page.

Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically and are billed through Stripe Billing, the subscription billing service operated by Stripe, Inc. When each billing period ends, Stripe charges the payment method you provided for the next period to continue your access. You can see your renewal status and renewal date under Settings → Romaji Pro, and you can turn off automatic renewal at any time.

Cancelling. You may cancel at any time, for any reason. Once cancelled, no further charges are made. Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then ends.

Refunds. Paid access is a digital service, and payments are non-refundable. We do not pro-rate, transfer, or credit unused time. We do not provide refunds or credits for periods in which you did not use the Service. This does not limit any right you have under mandatory consumer law where you live.

Consumers in the EU, EEA, and UK. If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a digital service. By subscribing and starting to use the Service immediately, you ask us to begin supplying it straight away and you acknowledge that you lose that withdrawal right once supply has begun. This does not affect your right to cancel so that your subscription does not renew.

We may adjust plan prices or what a plan includes. We will give reasonable notice before an adjustment, and it will not affect the entitlements of a period you have already paid for.

5Acceptable use

You agree not to do any of the following while using the Service:

  • use the Service to break the law or to infringe anyone else’s rights;
  • attack, interfere with, reverse engineer, or damage the platform or its systems, or try to gain unauthorized access to them;
  • scrape, copy, modify, or redistribute our content, or use it commercially, without permission;
  • exploit a bug, or use improper means, to obtain entitlements, data, or other benefits;
  • otherwise harm our legitimate interests or those of a third party.

If we find behaviour like this, we may issue a warning, restrict features, or ban the account, and we reserve the right to pursue legal remedies.

6Intellectual property

All content in the Service — including course material, text, images, audio, interface design, program code, trademarks, and logos — is owned by us or by the respective rights holders.

Except as expressly permitted by these Terms, you may not copy, modify, distribute, rent, or otherwise use that content for unauthorized purposes without our written permission or that of the rights holder.

Learning records and related data generated by your normal use of the Service are used to provide the Service to you, to improve the product, and for statistical analysis. See our Privacy Policy for details.

7Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we give no express or implied warranty as to its fitness, completeness, or accuracy.

Learning outcomes vary with each person’s starting point, time, and effort. We do not promise any particular result or score.

If the Service is interrupted or data is affected by events beyond our control, network failures, third-party outages, or problems with your device, we will help within reason, but we are not liable for the consequences.

8Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any direct or indirect loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including lost data, lost profits, or business interruption.

Even where these Terms say otherwise, our total liability arising out of these Terms or your use of the Service is capped at the total amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the dispute arose.

9General

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we are established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also benefit from any mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live. We will try to resolve any dispute arising from these Terms through good-faith negotiation first. If that fails, either party may bring proceedings before the courts that have jurisdiction.

If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

If you have questions or a complaint about these Terms, please contact us through the support channel listed on the Service.
